Introduction to Doctors Surgery Ashgrove
We have registered nurse at our practice to perform minor surgical procedures, under local anaesthetic, within in our well-equipped treatment room. All procedures are undertaken with standard attention to equipment, sterilisation practices and protocols. Our GPs will take great care in explaining the character of your procedure and any follow-on treatment required.
Minor surgery is characterized as a series of procedures where brief procedures on superficial tissues are applied. Local anaesthesia is always required and the risk involved and the incidence of complication are small.
Lesions and conditions that call for such diagnostic or therapeutic procedures are often used both in the outpatient environment (for example, the cutting of skin lesions) and in the emergency care system (for example, wound suturing).
Therefore, the expertise of family practitioners for minor operations has become a vital aspect of medical training and has adjusted their profile to the issues and needs occurring in family practice. In addition, it is an important resource for effective medical practice and gaining skills in minor surgical procedures.
Procedures performed include, but are not limited to:
- Excision of skin cancers
- Skin biopsy
- Excision of cyst
- Ingrown toenails
- Trigger finger
- Sclerotherapy to eliminate spider veins on the legs
- Incision and drainage of abscesses
